WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

Do you have the urge to tell the stories of your life as a way of passing down information and wisdom to next generations? Do you have “a story that wants to be told” but no idea how to get started?

This is a friendly, supportive workshop in which to write your memoirs, share your memoirs with others, and learn good writing techniques to make your work interesting and enjoyable. This workshop is ideal for beginners who wish to get started writing their memoirs for the first time.

Short lessons will be provided each week to equip participants with the basic techniques of memoir writing narrative craft to make the memoir interesting, informative, and compelling. These include: use of scene and summary, internal and external dialogue, character development, sensory experience, and descriptive elements.

Each week participants will bring short pieces of memoir based either on suggested assignments, or work they already have in mind to write.  These will be read aloud to the group with the objective of receiving feedback in a constructive and supportive atmosphere.
